Discover the most picture-perfect spots of Istanbul under the expert tutelage of an ex-National Geographic editor / professional photographer; this is a perfect opportunity to help you improve your photography in a short time.

One of the many aspects of Istanbul that make it a popular destination for photographers is its incredible diversity. Depending on the day of the week you may find yourself accompanying your guide as you experience the open air markets including junk markets, bird market etc., enter small workshops located inside Middle Age caravanserais or drink tea with locals. You may be lucky enough to join a local wedding, circumcision ceremony whilst discovering some of the most ethnically diverse and colorful areas of Istanbul.

During your experience, you will learn how to approach people to take their photographs with your instructor on-hand to provide immediate assistance and advice. You will have time to discuss composition, equipment and approach with your multi-lingual guide.

Since this experience is not exactly for beginners, at least you are expected to know how to use your camera. However, a two-hour crash course on photography before the tour is possible with an extra fee.

If you'd like to take your photography and communication skills to the next step this is a great opportunity to learn about the city, country and its people side by side with an experienced pro photographer.

We are offering several customizable itineraries depending on the day of the week and interests & level of the clients.

This photography tour blew me away. No disrespect intended to anyone involved, but I wasn’t expecting too much when I signed up. I’d been on photography tours before, and I figured I’d be told some things about aperture settings or ISO that I’d heard before but then at least I’d be shown some good photography spots. Instead what I got was a phenomenal tour that felt like you really were walking along *on assignment* with a National Geographic photographer. It wasn’t just canned scenarios, Kamel was reacting to the things we’d see pop up in the streets, the weather conditions, etc. He would whip out his mobile phone and take a fantastic photo better than anything I could take with my DSLR because he captured the perfect moment. With his SLR he would blow me away photographing the same thing I was attempting to photograph, and he’d explain how and why he was doing what he was doing as it was unfolding in front of me. He even showed me a few pictures he took on his way walking over to my hotel in the morning and they were just incredible. Looked out of the pages of the magazine even without post processing. I was so inspired I actually went to the camera store after the tour and bought faster lenses so I could do better in low light and then I essentially repeated the entire tour myself the next day to practice and see what I could find. What I learned on this tour will stick with me through the rest of my destinations and I simply can’t wait to approach them through the eyes of a travel photographer through what Kamel taught me. I honestly wish I would have taken a second tour of his the next day. That’s another thing...he has several different options for the types of things you want to learn, and although it was clear a certain day would have worked much better for his schedule, he booked me on the most inconvenient day for him just because it was better for the type of tour I was wanting to do. Really fantastic of him. I’ve sat in on Nat Geo photographer classes/lectures before and while they were enjoyable, nothing has ever come close to this. I always wondered how the photographers just interacted with locals and found themselves in the situations where they could capture such great images, and this tour/lesson showed me that. If you’re considering doing a photography tour that’s more than just seeing the standard sites like any regular tour, definitely do this. I can’t recommend it enough.

    Definitely worth it !!

Spent two wonderful days with Kemal exploring parts of Istanbul which were definitely off the beaten track. I contacted him via what’s app and email and from day one he was very prompt and professional about the whole thing. He immediately understood what I wanted out of this tour. Even though when I arrived the weather was not what I was expecting but Kemal made sure that I still had an amazing time and he took me to places where I think I achieved some great shots.

He was very easy going and very helpful when he spotted that I could get a better shot in a certain manner he pointed it out. He was generous with his knowledge. One thing which I really liked was that even though he knew that from certain spots due to weather conditions I would not get the shots I would like he still accommodated them in our route and showed me in case I wanted to visit them later. Kemal really knows his city the people and he has a very easy manner about him. I would recommend this tour irrespective of you being a photographer or not !! Thanks Kemal it was amazing spending time with you !!

A Day with Kemal & Istanbul Photo Tours

Let me start by saying it was worth every penny! We communicated via email prior and he was very clear in regard to what he offered - just what I was hoping for. He met me where I was staying and we began by reviewing basic camera functions to ensure I was up to speed. He also covered exposure compensation! He spent time talking about photographic theory throughout the day. He took me to craftsmen in the Grand Bazar that were way off the beaten path. There I met some wonderful people and took some amazing images!! The goldsmiths were incredible. We worked on reflections, panning and settings. He shot with me and wanted to see what I was capturing - offering constructive criticism as needed in a encouraging way. He was very patient and answered all of my questions in a direct manner often covering complex ideas in a easy to understand fashion. The people that he introduced me to, were pleasant and kind. The children in the park were great and the neighborhoods were even better. He timed the ferries to ensure were we on the correct one to capture the sunset over the harbor and Mosques. To cap it off, we captured the Maidens Tower at night and worked on the basics of flash. Would I do this again? In a heart beat!

    A great experience!

I was on a business trip and had booked tour with Kemal on several days for a few hours. He made time despite his busy schedule, even picking me up at 5 am one morning. I was amazed to see his knowledge of cameras and lenses belonging to different brands. He cleared several of my doubts in photography on my Nikon equipment. We had discussions about techniques, composition and post processing. Other than being an excellent photographer and guide, I would always trust Kemal for his restaurant recommendations. He knows Istanbul in and out, an added advantage. Thanks Kemal!

    Fantastic Photography Tour of Istanbul

I did a private half day tour of the metal workshops followed with a private express sunset and night tour with Kemal. Kemal's approach and teaching style is fantastic and I learnt a lot in the time I had with him. I am an intermediate level photographer and the constructive feedback and insights into the mind of an experienced professional photographer like Kemal was invaluable.

He was also very open to being flexible with our itinerary allowing some freedom to take advantage of particular photo opportunities that would come up along the way without ever feeling rushed.

Kemal's in depth knowledge of Istanbul and it's history was also a bonus as I felt like I got a free walking tour of the city thrown in!

Would recommend this tour to any of my friends in a heartbeat. A great way to experience a beautiful city in a way like no other.

Experience Istanbul and Improve your photography at the same time!

My daughter and I spent an afternoon with Kemal, exploring the Grand Bazaar and other local areas. It was our first trip to Istanbul, and Kemal was very good at telling us lots of interesting facts about the history of the people and also helping us capture it in our cameras.

We got to meet some really interesting people and see behind the scenes, not just the usual tourist areas. Our favourite visit was to a small metal workshop where castings were being made to supply the Grand Bazaar.

Both my daughter and I picked up lots of useful tips and grew in confidence about how to get some great shots. As a result over the next few days, we continued to get some lovely pictures even without Kemal by our sides.

If you want to get off the beaten track, improve your photography and have an enjoyable experience, this is highly recommended.
